For recovering data of the RAID array must be known its configuration - how were located data blocks on the hard drives in the array configuration. It is also necessary to be known the dimension of the data block and the type of the array (RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 10).
In self-sufficient attempts for restoring the RAID, users make the following mistakes:
- without knowing the configuration of the RAID array, they perform the recovery of the array using RAID controller installed by default
- without knowing the reasons for malfunction of a server they try to recover the data from the array with a corrupted RAID controller or with RAID controller of another type.
Common reason leading to loss of information of a server is the failure of the RAID controller, whereupon there are three options:
- physical defect in the controller of the RAID array - it does not work at all
- logical failure - breakdown of all settings of the RAID controller
- malfunction of the controller - incorrect addressing the data in the RAID array.
In all cases it is good to be known that what have been the settings in the forming the RAID array. Then, installing a good controller (duplicating the inefficient) and restoring its settings, the data from the RAID array can be recovered.
The above is performed in the presence of two conditions:
- all hard drives in the RAID array are absolutely correct
- the located data in them have not been logically damaged.
In cases when one or more hard drives in the RAID array fail, it has to be performed actions for restoring the data of the hard disks - each drive separately.
We perform data recovery from the RAID arrays without hardware resources of the client, server, RAID controller, using only our software and hardware resources.
